John Wister "Grumblethorpe" House

The John Wister "Grumblethorpe" House in Germantown played a significant role in the American Revolutionary War. Despite losing the battle, the American forces were able to kill British General James Agnew while trying to take over Grumblethorpe House.
The house was built in 1744 and has undergone renovations throughout the decades. In the 1960s, the house underwent a major restoration and refurnishing to match the original time period. In 1972, Grumblethorpe house was listed as a National Historic Landmark.
