A walk-&-stop presentation along the scenic coastal shore of Marblehead's Little Harbor, where the earliest settlement began, discussing how larger events in England and New England impacted the development of Marblehead. Led by social, cultural & architectural historian Judy Anderson. - Suggest a harbor-side lunch & a visit to Marblehead's Abbot Hall (Spirit of '76 painting, portraits of national figures, WPA murals, and other exhibits - open 10-5 pm) & a tour of the Jeremiah Lee Mansion (1766-68) afterward (last tour by 3 pm)(MarbleheadMuseum.org). - Visit Marblehead's Old Burying Ground on the rocky Burial Hill en route back to your car.

Directions/Transportation/Parking

Meet at the intersection of Beacon & Norman Streets in Marblehead (set GPS for 60 Norman St.) -- Park on Norman St. -- 1/2 mile walk total (VERY slow) - 1/2 mile walk back to cars from tour ending point - or 2 short blocks (or 3 long blocks) further walk to harbor-side restaurants (The Barnacle or The Landing) & 4 blocks to ice cream (Coffey's Ice Cream, next to Crosby's Marketplace). Ice cream is also just 3 blocks from Jeremiah Lee Mansion (161 Washington St.) and Abbot Hall (188 Washington St.) -- In town, there is good all-day parking behind & to the sides of Abbot Hall (though not ON Washington St.) - 1 mile walk or drive to morning tour start. Or visit Old Burial Hill on the walk back to your car after the tour, or at the end of the day. ** IMPORTANT NOTE ** There are NO restrooms until 4 blocks walk after end of tour. (Public restrooms are available in a small brick building by a small parking lot at the Marblehead Town Landing outside The Landing Restaurant. Plan to arrive at the public restrooms 1/2 hour before tour start. That parking lot by the restrooms is only 2-hour parking. Use GPS to navigate your drive to the tour starting place. )
