    Improve listing Presented by

From 1854 to 1929, over two hundred thousand children were transported from New York to the Midwest and beyond as part of the orphan train movement. Michael Brophy explores the origins and intentions of the orphan train movement as part of the larger immigrant experience. He describes how children were "placed out," shares stories of orphan train riders, and provides tips on researching ancestry of orphan train children.

Michael Brophy is a professional genealogical researcher, heir search specialist, and lecturer. He has conducted research for the TV program Who Do You Think you Are? and for Ancestry.com.

This event is part of the BPL's Local and Family History Lecture Series.
