Rockywold-Deephaven Camps: Respite from a Hectic World

    Improve listing Presented by

Founded in 1897 by Alice Mabel Bacon and Mary Alice Armstrong, Rockywold and Deephaven Camps were created as an oasis away from the pressures of an ever-modernizing world. Family owned and operated for much of its history, the Camps have changed with the times and yet retained their purpose: a place where families and friends can reconnect with each other and the natural world. Here, for 120 years, guests have enjoyed a simpler life immersed in the tranquility of the lake, woods, and surrounding mountains. Margie Howe Emmons, the great-granddaughter of Mrs. Armstrong, will explain how these two camps began and how they grew together.

Presented as part of the MWM’s current exhibit, “Summer Camps: The White Mountains Roots of an Iconic American Experience," on view from May 3 through September 13.
