Andy Volpe will present his talk “Printing Revolution: Declaration Edition” at the Storrs Library in Longmeadow MA on November 10, 2026 at 6:00PM, Free admission.
Please check with the Storrs Library for additional details.
We do not have the American Revolution, nor the 1st Amendment for Free Speech without the Printing press.
We'll take a look at the “revolution” of the printing press and graphics printing technologies in the 1400s and its impact on the World stage; the printing of revolution and revolutionary ideas; the perception of the press; the fight for a "free" and independent press between England and the American Colonies culminating in the printing of the Declaration of Independence and printing the American Revolution, hence the dual-meaning of “Printing Revolution”
A preview of replicas and some originals including several versions of the Declaration will be on display before and after the presentation.
Andy Volpe fell in love with the Old Master printers in the Renaissance and Early Modern Period while studying Fine Arts at Westfield State University. He has since been involved with the Museum of Printing in Haverhill MA, focuses his work on graphics & illustration printing 1450-1800, and curates the Klein collection at MOP. For several years he has worked with Gary Gregory, founder of the Printing Office of Edes & Gill Boston, replicating important prints and graphics relating to the American Revolution, where Volpe works in replicating engravings of Paul Revere. He is a member of the American Antiquarian Society and the American Printing History Association. When not printing, he gives arms & armor presentations at the Higgins Armory Collection, Worcester Art Museum.
