When interest in the Pilgrims began in the 19th century, no one knew what their houses looked like. This led early researchers to draw on what they knew from standing structures to describe what was built in the first decades of the Colony. As time went by, archaeology began to shed light on what the homes really looked like. This talk will look at how Pilgrim homes have been interpreted with a special emphasis on the archaeological findings and historical gleanings, from the past quarter century.
