Museum Internships at Salisbury Mansion, Worcester, MA

Salisbury Mansion, part of Worcester (Massachusetts) Historical Museum, is accepting applications for a ten-week internship program to be conducted from June 21 through August 28. The program, Stories from Salisbury Mansion, is the result of the changing environment created in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Salisbury Mansion, built in 1772 and Worcester’s only historical house museum, closed its doors to visitors in March 2020. With that closure, the opportunity to directly present Worcester’s history through the stories of those who lived and worked at the Mansion was lost. Fortunately, the technology exists that provides us with the opportunity to tell those stories and present them on a platform that will reach an even wider audience.

Stories from Salisbury Mansion is a project in which interns research Worcester and the Salisburys in the early part of the 19th century and develop stories based on that research. The stories will appear by first-person interpreters on the Museum’s YouTube channel. In addition to developing the scripts, interns will be exposed to other topics such as historical interpretation, management of historical house museums, developing exhibits, and using technology to expand the reach of museums to new audiences.

The entire program will be conducted remotely with one-on-one and group meetings. Inquiries and applications should be sent to Robert Stacy at robertstacy@worcesterhistory.net.
