About the lecture:

Union Flag Officer Andrew Hull Foote’s western flotilla supported General US Grant’s effort to control middle Tennessee. Once his ironclad fleet captured Ft. Henry, Foote sent part of his command down the Tennessee River to destroy Confederate transportation systems, supply depots, and capture the incomplete ironclad being built at Cerro Gordo, Tennessee. This ironclad became USS Eastport and fought with distinction until it was badly damaged by a torpedo during the Red River Campaign. It then scuttled to prevent capture.
