H.W. Brands, author of The Man Who Saved the Union: Ulysses Grant in War and Peace.
Henry William Brands was born in Oregon and earned graduate degrees in mathematics and history in Oregon and Texas. He taught at Vanderbilt University and Texas A&M University before joining the faculty at the University of Texas at Austin, where he is the Dickson Allen Anderson Centennial Professor of History. His latest book, The Man Who Saved the Union, focuses on our eighteenth president, Ulysses S. Grant. In this biography, Grant emerges as a genius in battle and a driven president to a divided country, who fearlessly remained on the side of justice.
