The Civil War Roundtable of New Hampshire invites anyone with a passion for Civil War history to visit us for our April 10th meeting.
"Maj. Gen. Daniel Sickles and the Neverending Gettysburg Controversy," will be the topic of the program by Matt Atkinson, Gettysburg Military Park Ranger and historian.

The Battle of Gettysburg is full of controversies, and one of the biggest is the actions of Maj. Gen. Daniel E. Sickles.
A political general from Tammany Hall, Sickles still provokes debate for his actions on July 2, 1863, when he extended his line to the Peach Orchard and through the Wheatfield.
He'd lose a leg that day and was seen smoking a cigar when taken from the field.
Matt has given many walking tours on the battlefield on the ground Sickles and his men fought and died on, and will present the events, good and bad, and what it meant for the battle itself.
A native of Houston, Mississippi, Matt graduated from Ole Miss before beginning his National Park Service career at Natchez Trace National Historic Park. His career took him to other parks including Petersburg National Battlefield, Manassas National Battlefield, and Vicksburg National Military Park. Matt returned to Gettysburg in 2008 where he has become one of the park's most popular interpreters and hosts numerous programs throughout the year.
