Join the Museum of Printing, Haverhill MA, for a lecture “Printing Revolution” with Andy Volpe

This talk will take a look at the “revolution” of the printing press, while also taking a look at the documents being printed that could be considered “revolutionary”, with an emphasis on the Colonial North America printers, the legal battles fought over the ideas of Freedom of the Press, and how it leads up to the American Revolution.

Following the presentation, there will be several replica and some original prints on display, such as the Declaration of Independence, a replica of a 1750s English Common Press, and an original 1750s Rolling press.

Presentation is apx. 1 hour in length.

Appropriate for ages 14 and up

Program is free with Museum admission.  Donations are always welcome.

About the presenter:  Andy Volpe is and artist, printer and living history presenter in the Worcester MA area, and has been involved with the Museum of Printing since 2009, working as a museum guide, presenter, intaglio printing demonstrator, school presenter, curator of the Klein collection of prints, and many other tasks.  Since 2010 he has worked with Gary Gregory who founded the Printing Office of Edes & Gill, where he researches and replicates the copperplate engravings of Paul Revere, as well as creating a series of Revolution 250th Commemorative limited edition prints.   In 2020 he engraved a full-size replica of Revere's “Boston Massacre” for its 250th anniversary, which he also has a presentation on.
