The summer-long Joy & Wonder of Miniatures at Hearthside House Museum will conclude with the final showing on Sunday, September 8th between 11 am - 3:30 pm.

A miniature violin and case hand crafted from scrap metal by Abraham Mergedichian is one of the pieces on display at The Joy & Wonder of Miniatures at Hearthside.  A talk on the making of these miniatures will take place at the final showing of the exhibit on Sunday, September 8th.

As a special feature on the final day will be a presentation by Robert Megerdichian as he shares the fascinating story of his father, Abraham, and his unique talent for creating miniatures from scrap metal.  He would give his special creations to friends and family as gifts throughout the years, eventually making over 400 pieces.  Those now comprise the Abraham Megerdichian collection, which is shown in museums and libraries around the country.  The presentation "Love in Metal" takes place outdoors under a tent between noon-1 p.m.  The option to just attend the presentation is available, especially if a previous visit was already made to the exhibit.

"The metal miniatures have been one of the most popular features in our exhibit this summer," states Kathy Hartley of the Friends of Hearthside.  "The craftsmanship exhibited in these tiny pieces is just remarkable and even more so when you think of the precision it took to get so many little details into them."

The miniatures exhibit includes well over 100 different miniatures, most of them antiques, that are displayed throughout two floors of the museum.  The variety of items appeal to both men and women, as well as children.  What makes a miniature is the scale and the details.  The largest "miniature" on display is a 4 foot working model of a Ferris Wheel and the smallest is a book that is small enough to fit on a fingernail. A scavenger hunt through the museum to locate specific miniatures makes the visit even more fun.  For those inspired by the miniatures and wishing to try to create their own may participate in a miniature book making activity for kids and adults.
