The Gilpin History Museum in Central City, CO is open from May 27 to October 1, 2017. Regular exhibits include the mining history of Gilpin County, a replica Main Street with depictions of the stores and businesses found in Central City in the 1870s, Gilpin County: From Mining Camp to Home which examines the progression from the tents and cabins of early miners to the Victorian homes that still mark Central City today, and the infamous Mountain Submarine, which was built and launched in Gilpin County in the 1890s. Our special exhibit for the summer is Barf: The Art and History of Air Sick Bags, with air sick bags representing over 80 airlines past and present on display. The Gilpin History Museum is open Memorial Day Weekend through October 1, Tuesday through Sunday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in addition to Memorial Day and Labor Day. Tours of the Teller House hotel, Central City Opera House, and Thomas House Museum are also available through our Tour Office. Except for Memorial Day and Labor Day all locations are closed on Mondays.
