Historic New England was recently awarded a grant from Connecticut Humanities to support our participation in the CT Summer at the Museum initiative.

The program invites Connecticut children ages 18 and under plus one accompanying Connecticut resident adult to visit participating museums free of charge through September 4, 2023. Funding for the initiative is provided by the CT General Assembly, with the support of Connecticut Humanities and the Department of Economic and Community Development, Office of the Arts, which also receives support from the federal ARPA.
“Roseland Cottage was paradise for Henry and Lucy’s ten children, who spent their summer here so it seems natural for us to welcome kids into the house. Though we can’t let kids slide down the bannister or bowl in our alley, we do invite visitors to try their hand at croquet, set up on the lawn here at Roseland. Everyone can have a taste of a summer’s day at Roseland Cottage,” said Site Manager Laurie Masciandaro.
Stop by for a visit. Bring the family. Listen to stories about the Bowen family and their Woodstock summer retreat, enjoy the grounds, and get a look at the nation’s oldest surviving indoor bowling alley!
Roseland Cottage is open Thursday through Sunday. Tours are on the hour and start at 11:00 a.m. Visitors do not need to register in advance. For more information contact RoselandCottage@HistoricNewEngland.org or call 860-928-4074.
