The Greek Revival mansion presents art and artifacts from the 19th century China Trade; domestic items illustrating how a typical Boston Brahmin family lived during that period; and Lincoln and Civil War artifacts and memorabilia collected by Mary Bowditch Forbes. The Museum also features items from the remarkable effort to aid Ireland during the Great Famine in 1847, when Captain Forbes sailed the USS Jamestown to County Cork, filled with 800 tons of donated relief supplies from New England and beyond. This voyage was the United States' first international humanitarian aid effort, helping to solidify the country's role in global relief missions.
