Folk Music of the American Civil War

Audiences not only experience the historical music, but will also participate! 

Marek Bennett’s repertoire includes parlor songs, rally cries, spirituals and parodies. His lively performances take inspiration from various folk traditions, engaging audiences in immersive explorations of history as a sung, spoken, and lived experience. In his concert featuring mid-19th century American folk music, artwork and texts, Marek will encourage audience participation with singing, sampling basic folk instruments and reading selected historic excerpts. Join us for an entertaining evening of rousing singalongs and dramatic readings!
