Discovering New England’s Hidden Histories in First Church Marlborough and other Congregational Churches in New England

Every summer over the last decade, Jeff Cooper has been trekking to Massachusetts from his post as a professor at the University of Oklahoma to conduct research, town by town, looking for the earliest records of the Congregational Churches in Massachusetts and throughout New England.  Earlier this year he moved to Massachusetts and is now working for the Congregational Library and Archives full time, leading their “New England Hidden Histories” project to find, preserve, digitize, and make these records available to all online.

First Church in Marlborough (Congregational) is one of the dozens of community churches Jeff is working with, and in this program he’ll tell us more about his research, what he’s found and where the project is headed.

This talk is being held in conjunction with First Church Marlborough in celebration of the 350th anniversary of their founding and will be held at the Church and will include information from their archives.
