Just in time for National Ice Cream Month in July, join us on July 19 for Dairy at the Mill! Come to Hanford Mills with the whole family to enjoy vanilla ice cream (while supplies last) churned at our mill and chilled with ice that we cut from the pond at Ice Harvest in January. The ice house will be open, providing visitors with the opportunity to see the ice blocks that were harvested this winter being put to use. Many exhibitors will be on-site for the festivities as well, including the Delaware County Dairy Ambassadors, the Dragon Wagon Book Bus, Hartwick College’s Baking Innovation Lab, Brookside Maple and Farm, Union Grove Distillery, Gilson’s Native American Crafts, The Farmer’s Wife Pies and Baked Goods, and Blue Merle Apiaries. The Delsego 4-H Club is bringing cows and will be providing education about the dairy industry.

Food can be purchased from Helen’s Little Kitchen food truck who will be on-site for the day. You can also bring a picnic lunch or enjoy your ice cream at our picnic tables. Contemporary folk singer-songwriter Will Walker from Cooperstown will be performing poetic songs inspired by family, history, and rural communities.

Ongoing throughout the day will be demonstrations of the sawmill and gristmill, as well as mill tours featuring the Fitz overshot waterwheel. Young visitors can learn about the history of butter making with hands-on activities in the Learning Lab.
