Step back in time as the Civil War comes to life in Montgomery County! Stop at the Information tent as you walk from public parking to pick up the Schedule of Events for the day.
Witness artillery demonstrations where artillerists will explore how cannons were fired, the type of ammunition used, and afterward, answer all your questions! Line up to see a daily battle where the Union and Confederate forces clash on the battlefield.
Hear the African American Civil War music & songs of Joe Becton & Antoine Watts on Saturday and the Irish music & songs of Charlie Zahm on Sunday near the mansion.
Take a tour of the Pennypacker mansion and learn what it was like for young 20 year old Samuel Pennypacker to volunteer in an Emergency Militia in the early days of the Gettysburg Campaign. See special Civil War exhibits highlighting family members who served on both sides of the war and Samuel’s cousin, Galusha Pennypacker, the youngest Union General in the War.
Kids can participate in the “Be a Soldier” Enlistment for Kids. They will raise their hand and take the Oath of Allegiance, fill out an official enlistment form with pen and ink, and learn to march & drill with wooden guns!
Walk through the military encampments and see how soldiers lived on the move, visit the civilian street area where demonstrations will be ongoing throughout the weekend.
