Hear the stories and see the artifacts from the Civil War living historians of Rhode Island’s Battery B on Sunday, August 25th at Lincoln’s Hearthside House Museum through a day-long encampment, museum exhibits and tours focusing on what life was like for the soldiers, women and children off the battlefield during the 1860s.
Soldiers and civilians will be set up on the grounds of the museum featuring both outdoor and indoor exhibits, such as Battery B’s cannon, antique musical instruments from the Providence Brigade Band, Sanitary Commission, period children’s toys, Civil War letters, 1860s fashions, Civil War uniforms, photographs, and genealogical records of those who served in Battery B. Confederate representation will be by the 34th Virginia Cavalry, with a display of arms and artifacts.

The other historic sites at the Great Road Heritage Campus at Chase Farm Park will also be open, with various scenarios including recruitment and letter writing session to soldiers at the one-room schoolhouse, demonstrations of hand forging at the Hannaway Blacksmith Shop, and tours at the Moffett Mill. The re-enactors will offer refreshments for purchase at their concession stand.
