“Camp Letterman,” the famous medical hospital that soon popped up after the Battle of Gettysburg, will be the topic of the evening’s presentation. Created by Dr. Jonathan Letterman, the man who invented modern triage, Camp Letterman would cover 80 acres with 400 tents, housing 47 men per tent. Picture M*A*S*H of the Civil War.

The hospital closed on November 20, 1863, over four months after the battle, and one day after Lincoln’s famous speech, dedicating the new cemetery.
