Book Group - Rush: Revolution, Madness, and Benjamin Rush, the Visionary Doctor Who Became a Founding Father

The Lexington Historical Society Book Group meets five times each year, and new members are always welcome! Our 2020-21 season will be "pay as you go", with a discounted rate for Zoom meetings where dinner will not be included. In-person meetings include a catered buffet dinner from Neillio's.

Our first book of the season takes a close look at an often overlooked Founding Father, Dr. Benjamin Rush. His accomplishments just by the end of the Revolutionary period were many: editor of Common Sense, signer of the Declaration of Independence, member of the Constitutional Convention, and surgeon general in the Continental Army. Most remembered for his medical career, Rush was a visionary and complex physician during a time of great medical innovation. Fellow author Buzz Bissinger writes, "The best books are full of surprises. Rush has more of them than any historical biography I have read in ages.
