Hands-On Traditional Blacksmith Forge Workshop at Vulture City
Beginner Course:
Step into the heat and grit of the Old West with our immersive Blacksmith Experience at Vulture City Forge — located in the oldest surviving blacksmith shop in Arizona.
In this hands-on, 4-hour workshop, you’ll learn the foundational skills of traditional blacksmithing, just as the town’s original craftsmen once did over a century ago. Under the guidance of our experienced smith, you’ll heat, hammer, twist, taper, chisel, and bend raw steel into a finished project you’ll take home — all while working at a real coal forge with period-appropriate tools.
This is more than a class — it’s a journey into the craftsmanship that kept the mining operation running, forged tools for survival, and built the very bones of Vulture City. Whether you’re a first-timer or a hands-on history enthusiast, you’ll walk away with new skills, a deeper respect for frontier labor, and something tangible forged by your own two hands.
Advanced Course:
Ready to take your blacksmithing to the next level?
Our Advanced Blacksmithing Series is a three-session, hands-on immersion into the art and discipline of traditional metalwork — all set against the backdrop of historic Vulture City.
Over the course of three in-depth workshops, you’ll move beyond the basics to forge a refined, functional item such as a hand-forged knife, fire poker, or decorative tool — a substantial project that combines form, function, and frontier craftsmanship.
Working alongside our master blacksmith in an authentic forge setting, you’ll learn advanced techniques including precision tapering, scrollwork, shaping, riveting, edge treatment, and handle construction. This series is perfect for those who want more time at the anvil, deeper skill-building, and the satisfaction of creating something truly impressive with fire and steel.
