Antietam, the deadliest one-day battle in American military history, showed that the Union could stand against the Confederate army in the Eastern theater. Lee invaded Maryland in September 1862.  Confederate success in Federal territory could influence impending Congressional elections in the North and persuade European nations to recognize the Confederate States of America. This two day reenactment takes place at the historic Daniel Lady Farm in Gettysburg, PA. Gates open at 9AM and attractions include a Living History Village where guests can speak and interact with historians portraying a wide Variety of persons and professions. A Speaker's Tent presents first person impressions and talks on various aspects of 19th century life and the war. The house and barn which were used as a Confederate field hospital during the battle of Gettysburg are open for tours and there are various Sutlers and modern day merchants selling their wares. Throughout the day there are different demonstrations and the afternoon concludes with a full-scale reenactment of the battle. There is food available, some picnic tables, and you are welcome to bring your own chairs or refreshments. No firearms are allowed even with a permit and no animals except registered service animals. This is a working farm so please dress and prepare accordingly.
